The German formation Feuerseele has been working on their debut album for about one and a half year. In 2012 it was finally ready for release: “Erntezeit” is out now.
The band makes Folkrock and does this simply said: with cliché. You have some modern sounding band and you add some typical folk instruments in there to create the sound that Feuerseele brings you. This results in having to listen to bagpipes while they don’t really add something to the composition. It could have been left out as well, but then it would not be “folk”? This is something that returns constantly throughout the release and brings a bit of a bitter taste to the mouth. If you imagine the tracks without those elements it would be some nice songs, generic and easy to listen to. It is preferable that the band listens carefully to find the right time and the right place to add these, so that they actually embrace the music instead of bringing it down.
It is only the band’s debut, perhaps a next release will be more thought off. The music has some good parts that could grow if the guys start being more critical on themselves.
