Brasstonaut has its home base in Canada. They make a mix between jazz, pop to electronic and recently released their new album called “Mean Sun”.
It opens so nice and quietly, serene and joyful. When the vocals join in a little reference to Ou Est Le Swimmingpool comes up but the band is not giving the same energy and drama as them. They prefer to slowly built their tensions and keep that tempo quite low. It feels like an Indie rock band starting up, but when the guys play around with these jazz influences you hear at what sides the guys can really excel. The melodies are captivating you and the dreamy atmosphere is giving it a warm touch. The last couple of tracks are a bit more wild, as what you could consider wild compared to the tracks you heard before, showing that the guys like to give you some extra intensity right here at the end.
Put your headphones on, Brasstronaut is a band you just have to listen to, the intimate sound, atmospheres and come out best when you are totally surrendering to it. “Mean Sun” will not be the album you listen to at any time, but one you keep for the special moments.
