Onheil – Razor

Releasedate: 15-05-2009; Label: Cyclone Empire
By: Sabine van Gameren

Onheil is a Black Metal band coming from The Netherlands. The band is formed in 1999 and after releasing a bunch of demo’s and an EP there is now a full length album to present to the world of metal: “Razor”.

The Dutch metal heads smack a portion of fast black metal in your face, which starts with a chilled heartbeat that turns into the more stressed beats from drummer Terger. Melodic guitars are driving the songs to an open attitude, it can be picked up by an wider audience than those who just fancy the tradition old school black metal. Vocalist Amok makes himself heard and understandable with a vocal style that embraces the open character the guitars create.
The album also contains a song in Dutch “Pad Der Verdoemenis” which draws a nice contrast when it is needed as the album came to the 8th song here.
Perhaps the album could have been more varied, but in here the album sounds like one piece of music instead of a collection of songs so when it comes to the point this issue is not really close to become a down mark.

The album shows how elegant black metal can be while the genre does not really have that stamp. It’s filthy, but not too raw to get it with your bare hands. Someone have to built a bridge and there is Onheil working on.
