Stealing Axion – Moments

Releasedate: 27-08-2012; Label: InsideOut
By: Sabine van Gameren

The American formation Stealing Axion is relatively young. After their formation in 2010 the Progressive Metal band came with some small releases but this year the band is ready to step it up and release a full length album called: “Moments”.

The atmospherical music that these guys make may bring some Nordic memories with them, Barren Earth, Before The Dawn is what you might associate it with. By bringing some groove into it all they bring the atmospherical elements in their sound up to another level. Vocal wise there are clean as well as the growls. These are very well thought divided which makes sure that there is balance between them, nothing takes over the whole and that speaks for them.
Even though the album clocks over 75 minutes, it still feels like they were done too fast. “Moments” is an album that sucks you in, becomes you at the time listening and makes it easy for you to forget about time, it does not get boring at all. The playing with tension, a very balanced instrumental and vocal structure make this album its success. As a little point that strikes against the positive feeling of it all you might get the feeling that they have played it all a bit safe. Maybe taking some more risks would bring some surprises into it all. Overall this is simply a good album that is pleasant to listen to. One band that you have to keep in mind!
