The Canadian band Kobra And The Lotus fronted by vocalist Kobra Paige is formed in 2009. will release their debut, self-titled album on August 6th 2012 via Spinefarm Records.
A female fronted Heavy Metal band is always a slightly bit different than those thousands of bands fronted by males. Say Battle Beast and you have one example of a band for which this formula worked greatly in the past years. The voice of Kobra Pageis rather clean though. Not too raw but not too typical girlish either. It has the right strength to put some power into the sound of this formation. Combine this with a couple of great riffs, that shine even more in the solo’s to be found on the album. Maybe a bit too dominating drums are found here but in the end it is not too disturbing. Also the songs may need a little variation perhaps. A powerful ballad would suit the band so well and creates a break in the album that keeps it interesting a bit longer. To hear it is the band’s debut release sets it even more positive. Kobra And The Lotus sounds like there is loads of potential in here. A band you want to see live and keep your eyes on to see how they will sound upon a new record.
