Jess and The Ancient Ones are a formation from Finland. Their self titled album came out in May and it brought them already to the Tuska Metal festival where the band drew quite a crowd.
The band makes a type of music which lays in the same direction asChristian Mistress but is perhaps less raw. The band has that classical rock over them bands like Led Zeppelin may jump into your mind as well. The band comes with a strong bass here and when the rest of the band is quite calm. It are the vocals of Jess that are giving this album a rather unique touch. She draws a lot of emotional parts towards the music that strengthen the melodic parts that are found into the guitars already. Throughout the album you find quite different songs, some are hypnotizing you by sound, keeping your mind from drifting off and others are the perfect soundtracks to your upcoming road trip.
This release is very entertaining and keeps you listening. It’s not an album you put away easily as you simply need to hear it more to get the most out of it. Recommended for sure, the band for those who like good old classic rock brought anno 2012.
