The Agonist – Prisoners

Releasedate: 04-06-2012; Label: Century Media
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Agonist is a Canadian metal band from Montreal, Quebec formed in 2004 by guitarist Danny Marino, bassist Chris Kells, and vocalist Alissa White-Gluz. The band has recently released their third full length album called: “Prisoners”.

A band with female vocals, brought as grunt and clean and it is not Arch Enemy, The Agonist is hard on its way to runner up, and with this new release they might have come a step closer yet again. Musically it are the melodics that go upfront, the guitars are having a great part in here and it is done quite solid. They are making the music catchy and in combination with clean vocals you could not help thinking a little in the direction of the Swedish band All Ends. Luckily there are some grunts as well, which give the music some more balls straight away. Therefore it does not lack on strength, but for some tracks they might be dancing on that edge of it. This albums is definitely a step forward for this band, maybe some would say they have heard it before, yes the sound is recognizable but when brought with the right skills and the right charm as The Agonist shows, that is only a minority.
