Releasedate: 18-06-2012; Label: Candlelight Records/Mnemosyne Productions
By: Sabine van Gameren
The Norwegian Ihsahn got his name settled throughout his career. Known from Emperor and various other formations, but he built a solo career also. In 2010 the last album of a trilogy came out and anno 2012 a new album sees light. “Eremita” is out now.
Ihsahn’s work became more prog on the last two releases and also in “Eremita” you can find a large dose of it. Live, he has the support of the Norwegian progband Leprous, which matches the music very well. Just as in the previous release, saxo-maniac Jurgen Munkeby has his parts in the music, which make it all more bizarre than you could have thought. Also some other guests are part of this release; Devin Townsend, Jeff Loomis, enough to make this whole release remarkable.
Ihsahn inserted a little more darkness compared to “After”. It is somehow more creepy and the track “Grief” is one that comes out most dramatic. About his qualities you don’t have to doubt, this album shows once again that Ihsahn knows how to make great music. “Eremita” is one that every fan can buy blindly and is recommended for everyone that likes the oddities in music. Simply think on the mentioned guest musicians that you will find in this release and you know more than enough.
