Der Klinke – The Second Sun

Releasedate: 27-04-2012; Label: Echozone
By: Sabine van Gameren

Der Klinke is a formation from Belgium that started in 2009. Musically they can be found in the Electro-Cold-Wave corner. The band released their second full length called: “The Second Sun” recently.

A bit of the 80’s dark wave tuned up with some modern influences is to be found on this release. Quite dark and depressive material, moody atmospheres and tracks that have an electronic vibe in the highlight but carefully added guitars make the tracks a bit more heavily loaded. The band creates depth with adding diversity while others often remain with a quite flat throughout an album so there is definitely a plus for these guys here. Think a bit in the direction of Clan of Xymox, sometimes the band tends to be a bit like them, but overall they maintain that face of Der Klinke as a cover. It is shaping up and the lines come clearer. It is still a young band and sometimes you hear them experimenting and searching on how to cross their borders and make the landscape of Der Klinke even more interesting. “The Second Sun” is a nice album of a band in progress, tracks like “In Flames” and “The Game” are telling you this band can be up to become a big one, but time will learn how this will move on.
