Who does not know about Paradise Lost? Thousands of bands mention them as influence, the band has a career that counts more than 20 years and during that time they released thirteen full length albums. “Tragic Idol” is the band’s latest release.
Within the time in their existence the band experimented around with their sound, last album the band got back a little closer to their start and “Tragic Idol” surely follows the path. Melancholic and depressive sounds, vocals that tell their story softly yet with strength, guitars that fill up the beauty of it all. Simple, no one has to tell Paradise Lost how to make their music, it is their blood. The music is always balanced and carefully thought off, no raw edges but kept from being polished too much as well. Probably there are some fans that would love to see this band break out and do something radical once, but with “Tragic Idol” that won’t be found. It is a one-unit that could be seen as a book with its chapters, following up to each other and tell a complete story, but none of them could be seen as an individual characteristic track. Paradise Lost fans will buy it anyway, but if you have not tried their material before, this album is also a good one to start with. It shows all the band has done in the past, collected with the quality anno 2012. It will open the doors to their past.
