Obsidian Butterfly is a band that makes quite calm Gothic Rock. The release “Same” is out now.
The album cover looks promising, maybe I expected some deeper material than what this album is given due to that, but a pleasant surprise comes when hearing the calm and relaxed music of this formation. Acoustic guitar, some piano parts that work on your emotions, simply enough to get into the mood. You may hear this is a one man project, sometimes it lacks a bit of a strong body due to it but when you start to feel the sound that Lefthander was after you quickly drop that feeling.
Influences of Pink Floyd are recognizable, the psychedelic parts of it reflect very well in the side of Obsidian Butterfly. Some of the most remarkable moments are to be found on songs like “Aztec Night Fever” which of the title hints into the direction of what to expect or the somehow epic “Bloodlines” that seems to end in dead.
“Same” is an album that gives very diverse sides of that gothic rock. It may bring you surprises and perhaps you have to spin that record a couple of times before truly feeling it.
