Golden Dawn is an Austrian band formed by Stefan Traunmüller, originally as a one-man black metal project, in 1992. Although some more members were added through the years, anno 2012 there are no more musicians, back to being a solo project and a fourth full length release is out.
It’s been a while, since people heard of these guys, the last release dates back to 2003 so there has been quite some time between that release and “Return To Provenance”, the title of their 2012 release. The Austrian makes Melodic Black Metal which reminds a bit to what bands like Beyond The Dream are doing, throwing in a slight line of gothic elements but remain from letting this implementation become too upfront. There is plenty of vehemence to remind you where the band started at. With here and there some flirting with Industrial Metal the band creates an entertaining track list with varied songs. It is quite accessible, mainly because the melodic side of the band and therefore it seem like an album that will find its way to the fans of this genre soon enough. There is plenty of playing around with influences but overall you get a good idea of what Golden Dawn wants to be right now. A nice album!
