Vlad In Tears – Welcome To Vladyland

Releasedate: November 2011; Label: Echozone
By: Lara Cappelli

Vlad In Tears is an Italian alternative rock band formed by the four “Vlad brothers”, as they call themselves. Their fourth album “Welcome to Vladyland” was released in November 2011.

The title suggests it already: the album is conceived as a journey. As a matter of fact, everything takes off by leaving the world with “At the End of the World”. Once it seems the destination has been reached, it’s all about looking around: the atmosphere is filled with dark tones, but that’s just what you get after the first glimpse. Soon after you realize the place you are in has some carnival reminiscence, where a band is there to perform their music on broken notes. Pop melodies meet darker and metalish arrangements to bring out a clever mixture that might easily please a wider audience. Dreamy, surreal and paradoxical at times, the music is there to make you wander around, at some point the shape the music takes might make you think you’re momentarily attending a circus show with an unconventional background music.
Crazy as it might sound, I swear no mushrooms were involved in the writing of this review; “Welcome to Vladyland” truly makes up images you just can’t run from. Vlad in Tears call the place they created “Vladyland”. Well, no matter its name, the place they manage to take the listener to is waiting for you to be discovered.
