Svölk – Svölk 'Em All

Releasedate: 18-11-2011; Label: Napalm Records
By: Milla Smile

Svölk is a rock formation from Oslo, Norway. The nordic band re-released their debut album “Svölk Em’All” last fall. The album includes three new tracks created since 2009.

The band plays “bear metal” whatever this word would mean. It’s possible to mix everything and name it in a several different ways. So there is combination of desert rock and heavy metal which plays by classic line-up (singer, two guitarists, bass player and drummer).
What about the entire album. There are twelve tracks in the row. The killer opening track “52” has an expressive bluesy beginning that turned into heavy metal in the best raw tradition of 80’s. Other tracks are less bright but I point couple of them as well. There are “Miss Alcohol” and “Time for the Dying”. The first one is most rock-n-roll tune on this album. In the first listening I thought it was two songs 3 minutes each but then I realized that was the one song with two different parts. The second pointed song has one rhythm on all the length what not typical for desert rock. Also there is the classic stoner track, that’s “End of Days”.

After listening to the entire album, please, don’t ask bears about their ability to play metal. Just saying.
