Lakobeil is a project of Dirk Lakomy, known from his various projects like In My Rosary, Umbra Et Imago etc. Teamed up with Tobias Birkenbeil they started to make music like Wave-Pop a la the 80’s. The project has been going for a long time already, but so far not that many releases saw light, “Strange Encounter” is the band’s debut release.
What’s in the name, you might wonder, does the band really go into it on such a strange way? Well, partly yes. The music appears to be quite minimal but with only the simplest construction the band may succeed in bringing you into a different atmosphere. It may be a bit space, so you feel yourself drifting off easily but when songs like “Caïro” are passing by you start to feel the essence of this band in no time. Maybe not all of the tracks are as accessible as this one, but taken over the whole release they will get away with it. So yes, in that way Lakobeil may have that strange encounter the mention in their album title and it sets them straight on the image they are after. Listen once and repeat if you don’t get it straight away, but “Strange Encounter” will bring you some nice moments!
