Descendants of Cain is a project that has released their sixth studio album “Songs From A Vanishing World”. The band was formed in 1998 in London.
As the band says themselves: ‘Religion, politics, human behaviour, and environmental issues have always been at the forefront of DoC’s lyrical content.’ Quite an obvious quote when listening to “Songs From A Vanishing World”. The music is mainly build in order to support the lyrics and their statements, being the framework of which the story gets exhibited. Quite a calm, not too wild instrumental backing is there and never really let these instrumentals take up the foreground position. Works quite well, but in some songs the danger of getting boring is present, especially when lyrics get repeated and you feel the impact of the words is not there anymore.
After twelve tracks you feel a bit overloaded with it all, maybe a little more variation in the tracks would have spiced it up. Yet these vocals that can turn bad are also the strongest point of the album, dark and deep they have an impressive character behind them but overkill hurts it a bit in this case. Also a very great aspect on this album is the artwork, which is simply stunning. That is really an add to the album, so when you are interested in this band it is to recommend that you buy a physical release to make sure you can enjoy this as well.
Not a bad album, just a few songs too long.
