Liquid Grey is the personal band of Mr. Grey, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter from Kristiansand, Norway. In 2011 he came with his debut release “Grey Matter” via Echozone.
What you can expect from this album is it being Goth Rock. Think Sisters of Mercy but in a ‘Grey’ version. This especially comes through in the first moments of the album, but you may also find a scent of Bauhaus in this album. “Grey Matter” seem to be a title that reflect the album on multiple ways. The lyrics are often about these darker sides of life but all in the end it comes with only that little spark of light in there that takes the strength of it and makes it less dark, a grey matter. The instrumental part of the music has a quite logical structure which makes the album easy to listen to. The band self describes it as ‘goth rock for highways’ which may be a very accurate description for it (I did that too).
A little remark on the album might be made as well. After being a few songs into the album it is easy to have your attention slipping away from the music. Something in there that shakes you awake, a surprising element would keep us a little longer. Nevertheless it is a nice album.
