Coma Divine – Dead End Circle

Releasedate: 29-08-2011; Label: SPV
By: Sabine van Gameren

Coma Divine is the new creation of (and with) Sonja Kraushofer, well known singer of the bands L’Âme Immortelle and Persephone. “Dead End Circle” is her first release.

For those who are familiar with Sonja’s sound it may be a tough time, trying to accept the music she makes here with Coma Divine. Some blending is done, bring on progressive rock, here and there a little punk influences mainly on the way Sonja abuses her voice in here. Yes, that is not a nice way to say it, but when you are listening to this album you get tired of the whining sound after a couple of songs and that is such a pity as in other projects it always came out much better. More interesting elements in this release are the guitars and the cello who make it all heavy as it is. Overall it is to say that there is a lot of experimenting going on and one song comes out stronger than the other but the link between the songs is thin. The ideas of being a bit more refreshing are to encourage but this album seems to be released a bit too early. A bit of a disappointment.
