Doom Metal formation Noctisdark has its base in Spain. They formed in 1999 and say to be inspired by bands like Samael and Cradle of Filth. “The Roots of Dreamers” is the band’s second EP and is out now.
Good, this inspiration thing might be found back in the darkest parts of the music, but what first jumped in mind is that it sounded more like some Melodic Death Metal band from Finland (take any… Omnium Gatherum, myGRAIN etc…) and then slow it down to get the doom in there. Especially in the first songs this results in a lack of strength in the sound. The vocals are not convincing for the way they are presented, some more fury and dominance would have suited here so well. In the last songs this turned out a bit better. On The melodic part the band got more to highlight themselves with and the guitars in particular seem to have a nice part here. Seems like the intentions of the band are right on the good path, listen to the song “The Waterpath” for example and you can hear that they have it all working, but the main problem seem to come from the production. A pity, cause when the guys get it all straight, this band might be that one that grows faster than you may expect.
