Waiting In Vain is a band that experiments a lot with styles, yet again the tide has changes and they are now making ‘Rockmatic Pop’. Their latest EP called: “Awake Again” is out now.
What the Germans make is maybe different each time, but for this release the typical gothic darkwave, 80’s influenced is on the spot. The EP has two songs and a couple of remixes of the title song “Awake Again”. These songs are quite nice, not too original maybe, but seem to work for a while. A bit disappointing are the remixes somehow. The first one is “The Dark Unspoken remix” which speaks the most because of it being quite danceable. Yet, these are a bit too many versions of an average song for one EP. It all continues with “The Opusculum remix” which does not really bring anything new. And eventually you end with a completely instrumental track.
The whole release is a bit confusing and it does not really give you any direction of what Waiting In Vain will come up with next. For the two songs that are on it you don’t have to expect something innovative, and with the remixes you can dance for a bit, but that will be quite the end of the joy with it.
