Stoneflake is a Swedish formation, who’s story goes way back to 1984. But although Guitarist Jan Akesson and vocalist Peter Grundstrom known for a long time, it took 15 years before Stoneflake was formed. By now the band has quite some releases on their name and anno 2011 the band comes with the full length release “Marching On Timeless Tales” to be released via Massacre Records.
The band makes quite melodic heavy Metal. The first song on the album may start a bit messy, but sooner you get what they are about. A slow start, but tension building and soon some faster parts come in. The band has clearly put the vocals most upfront, most of the time the guitars stay quite in the back but eventually they break out. Although there are good parts to find in here, it may not be the most creative parts, but it contributes to the catchiness of these guys. “Marching One Timeless Tales” may exactly be what the title says as their sound is quite universal and surely will find its way to the melodic rock lovers. It is a pleasant album that listens easily but it won’t give you a clue of what comes from the guys themselves. What is stereotypical Stoneflake? It is often too obviously inspired by the past, which is a pity.
