The Krays are a street punk band from Brooklyn, New York who formed in 1994. John Kray writes all the lyrics. The Krays played one of the last shows at CBGB. John Kray was a member of The Devotchkas and also played bass for The Casualties for a couple years.
The album “Sangre” is the band’s fourth full length release and it is obvious the band took its time for it since the previous release dates back some years. The guys present a lat of fast songs with catchy choruses, easy to sing a long. The band surprises a little with some Spanish songs as well. These tend to be half a world different from the rest but perhaps bring an interesting variation on the typical punk sound that can be found in the other songs. The best points in this album are the vocals which seem quite consistent even within the different style the band takes on with the Spanish songs. Also the songwriting seems to be quite efficient. It is never over the top but yet reaching the target. The Krays may have been in hiatus for some years, but with “Sangre” they have a strong album for the punkers out there.
