Shining – VII: Född Förlorare

Releasedate: 27-05-2011; Label: Spinefarm
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Swedish band Shining recently got some confusion going on with the Norwegian namesakes. Though this Black Metal formation has been around since 1996 and comes with their 7th album. “VII: Född Förlorare” is out now.

The actual album does not start as dark as their reputation, but seem quite calm rock. But be aware cause the band has some strong drum part that comes in after the intro and sets the tone for the album. The album comes with clean vocals and some raw guitars in it although acoustic elements are also present. Actually the album seems quite melodic after all. After all the live reputation of the guys seem quite extreme but this release touches your senses on a different way and let the beauty stand upfront rather than the focus on the darkness and aggressive outcome. There are only six tracks on this release but all of them are quite lengthy. However, the band have built them on the right way which makes it an album that listens easily.
It is obvious that the band goes more into the melodic direction every release a little more and how much you like it may be quite personal but “VII: Född Förlorare” is a nice album that makes a logical step into the discography.
