Subliritum – A Touch of Death

Releasedate: 2011; Label: Battlegod
By: Sabine van Gameren

Subliritum is a Black Metal formation from Norway. They started in 1999 but “A Touch of Death” is only their second full length release.

The band comes with quite melodic Black Metal. It has symphonic elements and that may lighten it up. Though it may sound all a bit bigger than it actually is. The band doesn’t have the strength that they could have had, seeing the Keep of Kalessin connections. The vocals are in general a bit behind. Those could have been brought with more fire as it is now a bit flat. Stronger points in this release are the guitars which seem to have an experimental edge, trying out some progressive side as well. Some of the riffs are really worth listening to and keep you listening a little longer when hesitation whether to continue or not falls in. The production of the album may be it’s largest killer. It seems a little messy and perhaps a bit puzzled. There is a lot to win for the guys in here.
Overall the album has some ups and downs. It is not the next big thing, but the riffs in here show that there might be more in them than we have heard now.
