Infestus is a one man formation from Germany. It brings some obscure, yet ambient Black Metal since 2003 and “Ex|Ist” is the third full length album.
At first listening this album doesn’t seem to be that dark and obscure as you may expect. It is an open sound with lyrics you can hear quite well and is full of melodic parts. The tempo changes a lot but from Infestus you may expect it doesn’t stick in the slower parts. The music in general tens to be hypnotic/addictive. It drags you into the sound and makes you longing to climaxes all the time in which Infestus has a great point. These tensions keep the album interesting at all times. What is a great point in here is that the instruments are quite in balance by skills. Often with one man projects you can hear one instrument standing out while the rest is a bit behind but in here there is a good balance found and all instruments get the right place in the music. The different elements that are used make the album available for a wider audience. It is not an album for Black Metalists only but fans of post metal or doom may find themselves happy with this release as well. A whole lot of positive points have been found in this release while not to many downsides are to notice. Maybe the pure Black Metal fan may have to swallow a bit as it is not too stereotypical but for those with a little open minded view will adore it!
