Innercity Grit Records – 3rd Edition

Releasedate: 2011; Label: InnerCity Grit Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

InnerCity Grit records is a quite young company from Bristol, UK. The label started in 2008 to break free from “the current dinosaur operations that are in motion in the music industry at the moment”. The label has band signed from UK as well as from The Netherlands. They released a third sampler: “3rd Edition”.

This edition of the label’s sampler comes with a little different twist. The songs on it are more electronic than ever before. For example there are Viso <> Nero and Zoon Van Snook, which both played in the recent Pollination event (review). But it starts quite calm with a track of Kantor Tzar Collectif. The album does not really contain a lot of vocals, though in some tracks you’ll hear some. The further you get into the track list, the more darker and strange the music becomes. A little odd, but overall it remains quite calm. As always there is also a track included by Avacate, it being a remix this time. Almost at the end there is a song with Dutch lyrics, by RaaskalBOMfukkerz, which seems to be the most wild on this disc.
