Theatre of Tragedy was a Norwegian band from Stavanger, originally assembled in 1993 and best known for their earlier albums, which provided a great deal of influence to the gothic metal genre. The band made use of contrasting vocals – male bass vocals (making some use of death grunts) and female soprano singing (commonly referred to as “Beauty and the Beast” vocals).
This is the latest and also final album of Theater of Tragedy called “Last Curtain Call”. A live album as well as a DVD ends the last chapter of the Norwegian metal band Theater of Tragedy. The album comes with sixteen tracks. Since it is live you can hear the audience shouting, cheering and singing along on the record. A perfect summary of their best pieces captured live are put together on their last release. The “beauty and the beast vocals” create a certain atmosphere that makes it all sound a little surreal, more like a theater play rather than a metal concert. Which would match the name and album title again. Ironic – in a way. “Last Curtain Call” is a brilliant album to sum up eighteen years of band history. And also to put a great closing to it. Theater of Tragedy and their “Last Curtain Call”, out now!
