Misty Range fills the room, sometimes with powerful riffs – but more often with complex, massive soundscapes and songs that last. Introspective – but also dynamic and extrovert. The best way to describe Misty Range is perhaps as a synthesis and continuation of the very different musical backgrounds to Arve Paulsen and Stig Rennestraum. This creates a bathing raw and beautiful expression. Misty Range is also a result of previous collaboration in previous projects.
Their self titled debut album comes with ten tracks. Ten tracks with odd names, just as odd as the music itself. Somehow psychedelic, somehow groovy with a 60s sound and with a lot of guitar. Distorted guitar. In the first two songs there is not a whole lot of vocals. They start picking up throughout the album. A strange album but fascinating. Catchy music with soft vocals and a floating sound put you in a sort of trance. The funky music of the Norwegian duo Misty Range will keep your mind busy for a while. Trying to figure out what you won’t figure out. I have a feeling that this album is not meant to “make sense”. The album as well as the cover and the layout itself leaves you with questions that won’t really be answered – for now. So enjoy the riddle of Misty Range and get their new album.
