Thinning The Herd is an American band making hard rock. The band has been formed in 2006 and recently released their album “Oceans Rise”.
Thinning The Herd has some depressive mood over them when you hear them first, it goes slow, stoner/doomish. But the guys go deep and intense with their sound, leaving you with some interesting solo’s here and there, but they must be careful those are not going to turn in a too cheesy and predictable substance. Eventually you’ll find some songs that have a faster speed, but never win a race at all. This brings some more excitement in the album, because after a few tracks you quite found their tricks and it starts to get boring. Eventually they toss in the song “Wide Crossing” which seem to be one that they wrote for themselves, the band name gets scanted quite some times and perhaps is a bit of live song. Here and there you hear some Metallica ambitions in them, especially in the vocal side.
Too bad the album is not really exciting, the band shows some skills in the album, but a bit more creativity would be welcome next time. It’s such a waste when you feel like putting an album away because the songs
