Mirror of Obsidian is an Irish metal formation. The album “Imminent Chaos Complete” is the band’s debut album.
It is actually a two men formation, by the brothers Ennis. The guys have taken good care for making the album sound quite full anyway. Ciaran is taking care of the vocals. He does not have the typical voice I would expect with this type of music, which is progressive and yet quite heavy. Maybe a bit of Nevermore as a reference. In the instrumental part you get more towards bands like Meshuggah, but above all the band seem to be able to show their own face as well. Throughout the album there are plenty of times that the riffing shows some character, in fact the guitars are quite often upfront.
A bit of a downside is that the transitions from instrumental parts to vocal parts in some songs may be a bit abrupt, could have been done smoother. They prefer to be quite direct in any way and that shows all the time.
Overall the band have released an interesting album. It has a little different approach somehow and that stands quite well. Some perfection here and there for a future release and this band will probably been seen next to some large names all over Europe.
