Hundreds – Hundreds

Releasedate: 04-04-2011; Label: Sinnbus Records/Rough Trade
By: Sabine van Gameren

Hundreds is a German duo, actually brother and sister, and the make some electronic pop music. Their self titled album is now out in Benelux.

Slow tempo pop songs which seem danceable anyway, that’s what the first impression brings. During the track list it might cross your mind that it somehow is a bit minimalistic, a quite thin sound. This brings some peace in it all which works well as the sounds that they created somehow seem a bit strange. You get to the point of feeling like Alice in Hundredsland. The mysteriousness, the unknowing, the calmth and yet full of strength. They seem quite self confident and this makes the music stronger even though it is not really outgoing. Imagine yourself with headphones and a cup of tea enjoying this album or perhaps in the background in a trendy lounge bar. It is to wonder how this duo captures and remain people’s attention during concerts as the music itself may not convince everyone at first sight. It takes some more listening before the album actually starts to speak to your imagination, but after that you can sit back, relax and enjoy. Let’s see what this duo will surprise us with in the future.
