Kamera Obskur – Bildfänger

Releasedate: 01-04-2011; Label: Cold Dimensions
By: Sabine van Gameren

Kamera Obskur is a German formation that formed in 2007. The band makes Experimental Metal. This year they are bringing their album Bildfänger to the world.

Expect to be surprised by these guys. What they do is take some slow sort of Ambient Black Metal and experiment with it, make it dark, creepy and slow and include some German vocals with it. Seems like fairytale gone black. In some moments you could hear slight doom influences but it is mainly that avant-garde touch that makes it stand out. The compositions may be a bit odd, as if there is no beginning and no end, which may confuse many listeners. When you are open and ready to step out of your comfort zone and surrender to the music you get transferred into a interesting and intense world. The band easily switches from the guitar being the driving factor in a song to the vocals to be in the fore ground and seem to enjoy playing with people’s attention for them.

“Bildfänger” is not an album that will be widely adopted in the music scene, but it surely has its moments. The chaotic songs may cause a lot of people to lose interest quite fast, though it pays putting effort into listening to this album a little more often before putting it away.
