Michael Monroe – Sensory Overdrive

Releasedate: 11-03-2011; Label: Spinefarm
By: Sabine van Gameren

Michael Monroe, known as vocalist of the Finnish band Hanoi Rocks comes with a solo album. “Sensory Overdrive” is out now.

After getting fame with the band Hanoi Rocks, Michael now works on his solo career. Hanoi Rocks called its quits. Michael knows how to bring this sort of music, so no surprise to hear this album listens smoothly and has various highlights on it. The band or Monroe shares a couple of ex-New York Dolls (who will release their album soon as well), Ginger of The Wildhearts and Karl, the drummer who has quite a reputation on touring with various bands as well. Quite a good backup for Michael and this pays of quite well. Musically they got it all together quite well you can hear they share musical thoughts.
A bit of a downside is that the songs are all rather short and that in just a little more than half an hour you are already through this new Michael Monroe experience. The old Hanoi Rocks fans might have to swallow a bit for the fact that they won’t have a lengthy album to deal with, but with the raw edged, punky style the songs might also a bit more straightforward, which certainly has its advantages. Good album, one that fits in the collection and with sucha nice line up next to Monroe himself there is always a little something to love.
