Fenrik Lane is a Norwegian band that have been around since 1997. After some small releases and a debut in 2005, the band comes anno 2010 with their second full length release: “317”, released on the fairly young label called Melodic Rock Records.
This Norwegian trio has a pop/rock sound, no doubt it could hit the chart seen it’s catchiness. The melody is often driving you into a song and makes you pick up it easily while humming along to songs immediately. The guitars stand quite upfront in here and so it is them who capture the listener in the first place, while you would have expected that role to be for the vocals. While some songs have the dangerous potential to be radio hits, the band must be careful as while the fourteen songs of the album have been played you might get a little bitter taste of having heard too much of the same, especially in the second part of the album. Perhaps some more variation in song structure could bring the light for them. Of course this is just a minor issue, pick out your own darlings out of the album and play them all over will do. As a closer for the album, the band included a cover of Rihanna’s “Russian Roulette” which comes in quite rocky, leaving the actual drama of the song up for the chorus.
The band brought a good release. Perhaps it brings them across the border. So far the band have stayed in Norway, but this album has some European potential.
