Atlas & I – In Desolate Times

Releasedate: 25-10-2010; Label: Small Town Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

The UK based band Atlas & I makes Melodic Metal. Hear a bit of core influences in their sound as well. They just released “In Desolate Times”.

Atlas & I might turn to Metal, but not that much of aggression seems to come forth from their music. No heavy vocals, it all stays quite clean, guitars then to stay fairly calm as well, just in the melodic side they seemed to have found inspiration by various other bands. Take for example “The Great Devide”. There are some riffs in there, especially in the start, that remind strongly to the song “Dead Reflections” of Before The Dawn, a Melodic Death Metal band from Finland. They sound that similar, that it does not really showcases good taste of Atlas & I to use it in this way. This is not the only example, more songs reminded me to other bands. So after this my taste for this band has gone dead. Try again, a bit more originality please, this album is not worth checking out if you know the bands it is based on. If they want to get to the same level as them, they should try to make some music of their own first.
