Local Store is a Norwegian formation that has been working on their debut album. Expect a bit of singer/songwriter pop. “Magpie And The Moon” is out now.
So mellow, right at the start you are introduced to some sweet pop music. Calm and at ease, the titletrack as an opener. Leads to the question whether the rest is in line with that or is it is more diverse. Well both. The diversity in the songs is there, but it never gets too wild. Yet, some bluesy touch comes around the corner here and there, especially when the guitars pick their moment to shine. Sometime the vocals go up a bit too high for our likeings, just on that edge, not crossing it, but perhaps seeking the edges just a bit too much, the beauty of the whole lays not there.
The melancholic songs are a bit dreamy,
sometimes you will want to listen it again and sometimes you feel
like the end cannot come.
It splits you up, this release. It
feels like the best balance is not completely found yet. The trip
there seems interesting but not all is a win. Generally the album
listens easily though. A good companion on a cheery rainy day for
example.
