27-03-2010 Zeromancer

Venue: Hessenhalle, Gießen (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

Tonight we went to Gießen to see a sold out show in a quite big venue. Many people were waiting in lines, even after the doors had been open for a while already. Several people were waiting in front of the venue long before doors opened. Three bands were about to play, but most were only there for the headliner: Unheilig.

We were there mainly for the first one: Zeromancer. Zeromancer is a Norwegian Industrial rock band formed in 1999 by members of the band Seigmen. The current Lineup is Alex Møklebust (vocals), Kim Ljung (bass guitar/backup vocals), Noralf Ronthi (drums) Lorry Kristiansen (programming) and Dan Heide (lead guitar). The cheering was loud as Zeromancer entered the stage after we all had to wait quite long. Some people in the audience even had Norwegian flags which they were holding up. Zeromancer played many new songs off their latest album called “The Death Of Romance” as well as some older hits such as “Sinners International”, “Need You Like A Drug”, “1-800-Suicide” and many more. Their performance lasted 35 minutes only but they danced and moved around a lot in these 35 minutes. Alex danced around all over the stage but Dan and Kim didn’t stand still either and walked form one side to the other. The light was dim and they had a lot of smoke on the stage. Most of the audience danced along.

After that Diary of Dreams came up on stage. Unfortunately I did not see much of their performance. Diary of Dreams is a German electronic music group with a gothic attitude. The lead singer and founding member Adrian Hates has produced most of the albums by himself or with minimal help from others. He rarely uses a full band, except when he is on tour.

We didn’t see much of Unheilig either. But we saw the stage set up: The bow of a ship was set up on stage, in front of it there were many candles set up in a wavy form, and behind there was a screen where they played videos or lyrics along to the song. The singer jumped around all over the stage and performed while the audience was screaming out loud, each one trying to get the attention of the “Graf”. Unheilig (German for “Unholy”) is a German Neue Deutsche Härte band. The band was formed in 1999 and now consists of principally Der Graf (German for “The Count”), with his live musicians Licky, Henning Verlage and Potti.
