The Canadian formation The Death Wheelers is back with a brand new full-length! It has been three years since they released the last EP and this time, they returned with an interesting record called “I Tread On Your Grave”, which is inspired by the bikesploitation films from the early 70s. The concept is about a motorcycle club (The Death Wheelers) being resurrected after 45 years to cause mayhem across the country as the living dead. The album was recorded by the bassist Max Tremblay at the end of 2017 with no ‘studio trickery’.

There are many interesting aspects about this one. Firstly, the whole 36 minutes consists of no vocals and instruments only. The main highlight is the bass guitar but also the harmony of the instruments shouldn’t be ignored; each song offers different peak and highlights – at times guitar solos and at times the nice drumming. Secondly, the album just fucking flows so smoothly! The concept is reflected very well in this nice flow and with the monologues here and there. I also got the feeling that the band just came together and jammed for 36 minutes.

What I loved the most was this fine mix though; “I Tread On Your Grave” delivers some fine sludge, stoner, sleaze and hard-rock. There’s also this scattered and messy style despite the album having a concept. The versatile and changing pace delivers us songs that are doomy&sludge vs. rock’n’roll. All these aspects make the album a well-produced and well-composed one. It will flow, conquer your ears and your mind! Personally, I can say it’s just sincere and kicks ass… Now I don’t know about you but sometimes records like “I Tread On Your Grave” are all I need for this summer mood. So get on your motorcycles, get the album and give your ears a treat!
