The Roth Brock Project – The Roth Brock Project

[schema type=”review” name=”The Roth Brock Project – The Roth Brock Project” description=”Label: Frontiers Records” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-11-04″ ]John Roth and Terry Brock have united themselves after working together in Giant. The two seem to collaborate well and took it to the next level with The Roth Brock Project. Anno 2016 the guys come with a debut album which is self-titled.

Melodic Hardrockers unite and take their time to let the whole evolve. In 2009 they were first brought together but this project has been something they worked on for a bit. Something that can’t be missed, right from the start you can feel the songs being thoroughly thought out, having the melodics given them a huge shine but with smart chosen song structures they never go overboard with it all. For references you could look most at bands the guys have played with but here and there you could hear a slight bit of WASP-songwriting in it. Not obvious, for they are not that close to WASP but still something that surprises you maybe.

It would be easy to expect a cliché but this collaboration proves to be a fruitful one on the creative side. You can hear plenty of the guys self in there, having the vocals of mr Brock give it a sympathetic and warm touch. Looking for one specific highlight might be a tough challenge though, the album is filled with strong songs and there is not one that jumps out more than the others. A bit of a pity, although that is mainly a good thing in this case. They chose “Young Gun” for a music video and perhaps you could see a sort of summarizing in this song. It tells you exactly what to expect from the album.

Match made in heaven we would say, The Roth Brock Project is a project that turned out to be one that we might end up listening a lot more than we anticipated on. Hope they will keep the music coming!
