[schema type=”event” evtype=”Festival” name=”Amsterdam Metal Fest” street=”Melkweg” city=”Amsterdam” country=”NL” ]Amsterdam Metal Event is back with another edition. Melkweg filled up once again to see NL’s heaviest.
Hibakusha is a band we saw before at these events and good for them they were back again. This time to open the show and luckily quite some people bothered to show up early. The band has been formed in 2012 and been up on the rise, earlier this year they also appeared on the Fortarock festival so they have seen enough stage to know how to get people enthusiastic. The vehement vocals are carrying the sound to something that catches your attention, the instrumental part also embraces a melodic side which gives the band an interesting sound. It’s recognizable but brought with enough of Hibakusha to set themselves apart. With a somewhat energetic appearance this night they manage to wake up the audience a bit, getting the evening a good start.
Seita was a bit more of a surprising act tonight. That bands as Aborted and Textures are scoring well with the Dutch Metal audience is hardly a surprise so it was Seita which really gave us something unexpected. The Death/Thrash formation has their base in Amsterdam and seem to have gathered some local fame already. What comes to notice quite soon is that the guys are not just making their music but really want to bring something across. The word to be an inspiration for people around. They seem successful in at least getting people energetic, some heaedbanging is going and well deserved applause comes after each song the guys finish. It is a pity that their set is over at some point, we would certainly like to have seen more from them.
Exhivious is a bit oddly placed here. Right after Seita their music seems just a bit of a breaker, but it is simply because their music is 180 degrees different. It’s more intense in the feel of it. Some jazzy touch, a pit postrock and wherever they seem to draw from all gets mixed up towards their songs that are picking up some power and energy during their set, but simply start a bit slow straight after a Thrash formation like Seita. The band take their time but they have a bunch of fans along which deeply appraise their efforts and people listen with care to their performance. It is however a bit boring to watch, so the guys should mainly win it with their sound, which seem to work in the end.
Then we were given a non-Dutch band. The Swedish formation Humanity’s Last Breath was taking the stage and they did it with flair. Back to headbanging, vehemence and some moshing the band brought energy back into the Melkweg. They were the firsts of the evening who got a bit closer connection to the audience which was so close to them. Where other bands preferred to stay a bit back to the audience their vocalist often comes close and give the front rows an intense experience. At the end of their set it did became a bit too much alike, there could have been a bit more variance in it as now we ended up feeling the set could have been one or two songs shorter, a pity as they certainly moved us at first.
Aborted was ready for getting the place upside down and that was what happened. Moshing and moshing, a lot of beer flowing around as the Belgians are giving us an exhibition of strong, well composed Death Metal brought with the exact amount of fire. Of course they have been around for many years, they released album number nine this year so these Belgians are giving us exactly what is to be expected. Here and there some tempo changes that keep it exciting and with some of their live hits are passing by it becomes clear that this band is one that never bores you, no matter how many times you have seen them before. An excellent choice for a festival like this, giving any band before a run for it.
Textures has some international fame, wherever we go, there is always some bandmember of any sort of band that comes telling us about his passion for Textures and of course we have shared so many shows with them ourselves in the long past that we can always relate. It seems that they got people coming from other countries, just for them so they certainly are a drawer tonight. Unfortunately, due to some delays we were unable to see much of them as Amsterdam is not really that close to our headquarters and our beloved trainsystem always put some big blockage around the date of AMF so we have enjoyed them only for a bit. Luckily for us we saw the guys play also at Dynamo Metal Fest this year and they were certainly memorable there. The start of this show was just as promising as that show so we are quite sure the audience enjoyed it here as well.
Sorry Textures, nothing more to say then, but we can be sure to see you again! And that counts also for Amsterdam Metal Fest. A good line-up with some surprises is always interesting for us, so we are looking forward to the next party!
