Oddland – Orgin

[schema type=”review” name=”Oddland – Orgin” description=”Label: Sensory Records” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-09-09″ ]
Oddland is a band from Turku, Finland. The band plays Progressive Metal and have been formed back in the year of 2003. After seeing the band live a couple of times through the years and reviewing demo’s and a debut it is now time for a second full length. “Origin” is out now.

This band has progressed a lot through the years, some changes are coming forward clearly in this release. In the beginning of the album we find a slight reference to Leprous, vocal styles are more diverse than before and this causes a load of dynamic in the music, but not only there the band swifted. In general they seem to lean a bit to a more melancholic darkness and so come the album is really atmospheric. But with all that, the rest of the band lays a lot more power into their sound as well. Guitars are more elaborating and when they step to the foreground they really catch a spotlight and shine, being there. But where everyone has time to shine the guys have found a good balance in it all.
It seems like that the guys have taken their time to come with a strong follow up album after a debut that caught attention already. And they have succeeded with that. You can see that this band has grown a lot and while this album has a whole lot of pleasant moments to listen to, it is also an album that has diversity and power. “Origin” is one that will do well for this guys. They are one to watch, but even more: listen, listen again and again.
