Living in New York City, Gates’ Kevin Dye began to look at the world differently. It’s that inspiration that birthed “Parallel Lives”, the indie rock quintet’s sophomore album out June 3 on Pure Noise Records. Co-produced by Dye and Mike Watts (The Dear Hunter, As Tall As Lions), the album features the band experimenting with different instruments as they reach new sounds.
Slow and thoughtful music comes at you on “Parallel Lives”. The soft tunes are almost hypnotizing. Causing you to drift off to another world. Creating realms, telling tales. Gates cause your mind to wander far, far away with “Parallel Lives”. Everyday life seems to fade into the background and the melodies cause your mind and soul to let go. Each song is soothing and calming. Floating around your head. The music has a main focus on the guitar, the samples and effects create the depth and mind-wandering moments.
“Parallel Lives” lasts for forty-six minutes and includes hypnotizing music. Almost like a dream, the melodies are swaying above you. Hard to catch and grasp. Soft and smooth music is what Gates created on this album. A great one to relax to, so get it now.
