The Finnish band Callisto has been founded in 2001. Since then their Post Metal has taken shape towards their characteristic sound that brought them where they are now. Anno 2015 it is the year that the band will come with their fourth full length album. It is called: “Secret Youth”.
Hypnotic and intensity are no stranger to this brand new album of Callisto. It may not start with the wildest outburst as the band takes their time to build up some tension. In “Backbone” the band creates a lovely playfield where the guitars are picking you up and guide you through a dreamy world while the voice is telling you the story of the reality. When jumping towards the track “The Dead Layer” you are into a calm an serene world creating a break within it all for it being all instrumental and leaving you with time to let it all sink in.
After that you are slowly building again towards new climaxes and the band knows perfectly well how to build some excitement in it and although the teasing and pleasing is there they never fail to make the whole come out perfectly beautiful. The quality of these guys is not only found in their skills of playing but in the smart way of composing it, the way they keep it back when needed and the implementation of the vocals into the music is often done so well that you just know that Callisto is a band that is meant to grow huge.
“Secret Youth” is an album that is the perfect showcase for these guys. This is showing the world a great piece of Post Metal but with a gentle touch that creates a bridge to a fanbase that likes it a bit more accessible.
