Stillwave – Stillwave

Releasedate: 22-05-2014
By: Sabine van Gameren

Dutch formation Stillwave formed about two years ago. They recently released their first, selftitled EP.

It’s dark, a bit sinister even, you don’t know what to expect so much from this trio, but soon you come to a conclusion that you may think in a direction of the doom side of The Editors, the melodic part comes perhaps more to highlight though. The band likes to drown you in the moment where the whole gets fully instrumental to brutally take you up again with the vocals. A nasty game that drags you further and further into their sound. And that is exactly where the most negative point of the release is. It’s only an EP! Five songs and you are thrown back into a happy reality again, where melancholy has suited you so well for the past five songs. A bit of a helpless feeling and soon you find yourself listening the whole again to get into it even further. A mesmerizing and addicitive experience, listening to this EP. So yes, while it’s only an EP you are already waiting for a full length to drown yourself in. And it is not even the time of the year yet, that gloomy autumn where the mood is set for this music even more. Oh boy, beware of what’s next!
