23-03-2014 Wirtz

Venue: Gibson, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

Sunday night out at Gibson in Frankfurt. Daniel Wirtz was playing an acoustic show presenting his new album “Unplugged” and tonight’s show was sold out in just one day. So definitely the place to be for the night.

Daniel Wirtz is a singer / songwriter that is on his solo path since 2007. Before that he was the singer of the German rock band Sub7even. As the sold out show proved just once again, Wirtz has absolutely faithful and supportive fans. Wirtz is writing his songs in German. Honest and deep songs, straight forward, telling about struggles and pain as well as some brighter moments. Usually the music is still very rock and roll.

For this tour though they got support from a cello, piano and two violins and turned this show – and tour – not only into an a acoustic set but also into a classic performance. This was also the reason for the seats that were taking over the center of the venue. A box of tissues was standing right in front of the singer’s chair, for emotional break-outs as Daniel explained later. The cheering was immense as Wirtz and band came in stage. All wearing suits, the two female violin player wore dresses. The sound was brilliant and the rearranged songs were going deep underneath the skin of each listener. Everyone was quiet when the band was playing, saving it for the cheering between the songs. It was a very familiar and absolutely passionate atmosphere. Emotions were filling the air. Wirtz let you look straight into his heart and soul while singing his song. Talking between the songs strengthened the familiarity in the room. As if we all had been friends for the longest time and this is just a hang-out.

The guys were playing all hits, old and new, beautifully rearranged to match the acoustic set with cello, piano and violins. As a fan with crutches was leaving his chair for a moment to use the restroom, Daniel decided to wait with the next song until his return. Meanwhile the band jammed a little and the fans were able to take pictures with their favorites. The show lasted for about two hours including encores. Oh what a perfect Sunday night.
