Tonight’s act was IAMX. Without any support band IAMX played at Sankt Peter in Frankfurt tonight: A church that hosts shows. IAMX is the solo musical project of Chris Corner, formerly of the band Sneaker Pimps. Founded in 2004 in London, it is an independent music project which also focuses on and experiments with visual art. The venue was crowded and the stage was prepped. Two screens, one on each side, a drum set, effects and keyboard, multiple microphones, and more. All that let you guess this show would not be like any other show, but something extraordinary and special.

A little late, the band came on stage. Two women with little clothes on, painted with black body paint and crosses taped across their nipples. Then the drummer and finally Chris himself. The light stayed dim, fog joined in and created a mystic atmosphere. The screens gave the mood a final touch. Showing different images and pictures that could somehow be related to the songs the band was just playing. Chris Corner had two microphones that he sometimes used together, sometimes just one at a time. The girls on each of his side animated the audience to dance and shout along, infecting them with their energy and joy. Each song was absolutely emotional, not only because of all the heart the singer put into them. The audience loved the show, cheered and sang along to each song. Sometimes just grasping all the images and impressions that were coming from stage.

IAMX played for about ninety minutes. With many songs off the latest album, but also everybody’s favorites from the older albums. So they played “Nightlife”, “Tear Garden”, “Spit It Out” and many more. Leaving the audience speechless and impressed. It was a show like no other, a theater of tragedy and joy. A brilliant show that you should totally join if IAMX comes by your town.
