The Norwegian Satyricon does not really need an introduction. The guys have built themselves fame through the years and this year the band brings us a special release. It is a DVD called “Live At The Opera” which is exactly what it says it is.
The band teamed up with the opera to make their songs come out more special and evil. The show is starting and from down below, from hell raises a drum kit with a drummer. Frost is there and then we can start. Frost is a frequently featured member, which not all bands are doing in live recordings, giving their drummer that much of attention, but it is clear that he provides a substantial part to the sound and so come it is not that strange that they give some highlight to that.
The venue is stunning, huge and impressive. Though you see that fans at first are not so sure what to do with the fact that they are seated, but time and energy are making it become natural. Some stand up and some enjoy the comfort of their seat, all is fine.
Satyr is showing the audience how evil they can sound with the Norwegian National Opera Chorus” on their side. Halfway the set there is another guest introduced: Sivert Høyem who brings an interesting addition to the song “Phoenix”. After that the set continues which maybe not too surprising songs. We all know that songs like “Mother North” and “K.I.N.G” are standards on any Satyricon set and although they are not surprising us for the fact they are on the setlist, the way they are brought is certainly showing us a newer view on the tracks that makes it all more interesting.
Satyricon proves that a combination like they made is one that benefits the band and show that they can give their fans a little extra. A DVD that will not only please the fans they have nowadays but also those who appreciate their older work. Simply a must on your wishlist!
