Witherscape is a Progressive Death Metal project by Dan Swanö. Although Witherscape has been in planning for quite a long time, “The Inheritance” is their debut release.
Dan Swanö is a name you very often come across. Not only he played in various projects himself, he is also contributing to many other releases with his studio work. Now that “The Inheritance” is out the world is another great concept album richer. The man knows what he is doing and it comes forward once again. There is a whole story to be told and the vocals are bringing it with a strong persistence as we know Swanö from. Yet, Witherscape is not just Dan Swanö, it also features Ragnar Widerberg whose name is perhaps less familiar but adds his identity to it by bringing guitars into it. Quite filling up the sound, but always very much in balance with the rest. Perhaps the keys are dominating a lot at some points, but the combination with to vocals and the guitars make that is not drifting off too much.
So “The Inheritance” is yet a debut album but brought with these professionals it does not sound like that at all. You may have large expectations, but the band is totally fulfilling them with this release.
