Releasedate: 10-05-2013; Label: Echozone/I Am Surprised Records
By: Sabine van Gameren
The German Peter Field is behind the name Ehrenfeld. A debutalbum under this name was already released in 1999, but it has been quiet since. Now he is back with this full length release called: “Who’s That Boy?”.
Peter has been known as a co-producer of the Gothic Electro band Shock Therapy, so it is not really strange to hear some influences of that back into this release and not just that, also a cover is included. Though the overall result of this album tends more to some dark Pop music with a bit sinister edge here and there. The mix of German and English songs is bringing variation, though the English tracks tend to stand out a bit. Easier to catch, and perhaps a bit more international allure. Take the track “The Great Manitou”, it has a dark atmosphere, almost ready to get you tripping when listening it very carefully. This while the actual music has only a minimal influence in the sound. The vocals are there to make an impression and let the words have its influence on you.
Ehrenfeld is not the band that will present you a very wild album, it is one that you need to sit down for. Take your time and enjoy it within the right atmosphere. May not be love at first sight, but you will find the greatest moments eventually.
