Releasedate: 26-04-2013; Label: Cooperative Music
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Knife are a Swedish electronic music duo from Stockholm, formed in 1999. The group consists of siblings Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer. The band is known for only rarely giving live performances. It has been quiet around the band for a couple of years when both members took time to release solo material but anno 2013 they are back with a brand new studio release. “Shaking the Habitual” is out now.

As you are used to when it comes to The Knife the oddities are passing by in each track. It’s electronic elements are so stereotypical for The Knife that you can recognize it first time you hear them. Some tracks are a bit slow and depressing though, but in the depressive darkness you might be surprised to hear some Caribbean influences. The Knife is opening the doors to their dreamworld and you better be prepared to experience that, because it is an album that sucks you in. Plenty of things to discover so you can’t step out of it easily. Each track may introduce you to a whole new chapter of The Knife and yet there is that red thread going through the album. “Shaking The Habitual” is an album of which the title clearly explains what is going on. You hear what you are used to from them but shaken up with different influences and little twists to keep it interesting.
